While the term wireless network may technically be used to refer to any type of network that is wireless, the term is most commonly used to refer to a network whose interconnections between nodes (computers, such as notebook computers) is implemented without the use of wires, such as a computer network using the 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n standards. Wireless LAN networking is generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses radio waves, for the carrier and this usually takes place at the physical level or "layer" of the network.
