Upgrade your high-requirement workstations to full Gigabit speeds with the 8-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch. Providing non-blocking, wire speed switching for your 10, 100, and 1000-megabit network clients, the 8-Port Gigabit Switch has the capacity to can accelerate your workstations’ speed while continuing to service other clients at their current speeds. Drop this switch in place of your current workgroup hub or switch or build your network from the ground up, with appropriate link speeds for each user's requirements. Either way, it's the ideal tool to improve graphics, multimedia, and other applications that have to move large files across the network quickly.
Easily and conveniently connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to a Gigabit server backbone using only the 8-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch. With all 8 ports using the automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, your cable type and noise distortion are the least of your worries. Each port can independently and automatically negotiate for the best available speed and whether to run in half- or full-duplex mode. Address learning and aging is supported, as well as 802.3x flow control with head-of-line blocking prevention to keep your high-speed clients from bogging down a lower-speed traffic. Fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network. High-performing and intelligent, the Cisco 8-Port Gigabit Switch is the answer to your ever-expanding networking needs!
World famous Cisco reliability and the limited lifetime warranty give you peace of mind and the new ultra-compact case design is sure to fit into your workgroup environment. Let the Cisco 8-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch kick your network into high gear.

I bought one for my network that is setup at home. I have two computers that constantly run and one that I turn on often. After a couple of months the switch burned out. Not worth getting.

Buyer Beware: We purchased 6 of these switches to install in our new PC test lab. All 6 switches died within 3 to 6 months. Luckily we never used any in a production environment.

NOTE: I have 5 PCs and two network appliances, so 7 of 8 ports are in use, 24/7.
PROS: After a couple bad experiences with D-Link and NetGear unmanaged gigabit switches, I went back to Cisco/Linksys. The SD2008 started off well and had great speed across all 7 utilised ports.
CONS: Short life span when 7 of 8 ports in constant use. Recently I have discovered that my SD2008 is in its death throes. All ports have stepped down to 100 mbit. Even if a single PC is connected, trying to communicate at 1 gbit, the switch is now incapable of communicating at that speed.
CONCLUSION: If you have say 4 constantly operating devices, and have an occasional need for surge capability up to 5-8 devices, this might be the unit for you. But if you need 6-8 ports operating constantly, this unit is going to overheat and die within half a year.
