I needed to purchase a new scanner as my old one was so old there were no driver downloads for it for my newer computer. I purchased this scanner because I saw it did slides and 35MM negatives. I needed to go on the Epson site to find out how to do it after many tries on my own. Once I knew what to do it went great. The scanned pictures were unexpectidly good. I have not tried slides but will do so soon. I have scanned about 200 recipies I had been saving from magazines since 1982. They needed to be tweaked a bit, but was glad to get that job done. The only downside to this scanner is the film scanning is pretty slow but then again so was I on getting this done. There was not much information that came with the scanner but that seems to be the way it is these days. I see most of the new scanners open sideways. That is not good for scanning from magazines and books. I like this scanner as it lifts from front to back. I would buy this scanner again. |

After having used an old multi-function unit for scanning glossy magazines and photos, the Epson Perfection 4490 is glorious. I have none of the issues with grainy images even at moderate to low resolutions and it's fairly speedy.
It helps that the software is unecumbering and not at all a memory hog like the old HP software I was stuck using with my previous scanner. Although the three different user interfaces for the three different levels of skill are little more complicated than necessary, you can quickly move from one screen to the next if you need to make settings adjustments. |
