The D-Link® Xtreme N Duo™ Media Router (DIR-855) is the latest addition to the Award-winning Xtreme N product family. The Duo technology in the DIR-855 supports dualband (2.4GHz & 5GHz) wireless signals at the same time. This allows you to check e-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band while simultaneously streaming High-Definition (HD) movies and other media on the 5GHz band. Why Intelligent QoS is Better
With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including Voice over IP (VoIP), Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like Streaming Video could pause or delay. With the D-Link Intelligent QoS Prioritization Technology, wired and wireless traffic are analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. I had the D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router it was a great router until my power company decided they needed to have several brown outs that slowly damaged my router and leave it needing to be restarted every 12 to 16 hours. so I got this one plugged it in set my setting (manually of cores I don't need no stinking install disk. :P) and boom all 8 computers in my house are online and no problems so far.
I love all the features it has. Granted some of those features I still need to learn about but I have so much control over my network its great. I can also block the questionable sites my roommates go to that give me viruses on my network.
cons: yea the range isn't that great but it works for me. Keeps unwanted people from sitting outside my home and getting into my network. The cost is high but if this thing last longer than my old Dlink router, under the stress I put routers through, then it will be worth it. |

I have been using this router for about 6 months now. Besides this one, all of my other ones have DD-WRT on them as they didn't have enough features. This one mostly had what I needed factory unlike others so I stuck with it and really enjoy it. There are a lot of features, but many are ones rarely used. it would be nice if they included a couple more like a bridged repeater of some sort. Overall, I give it 4 1/2 stars. Enjoy! |
