I purchased this product to record TV shows that I had saved on my Dish Network DVR. I wanted a unit that could record to Dual Layer disks so it wouldn't require so many disks to save a season of shows. The recorder works great with both standard DVD's and Dual Layer DVD's and so far they have played on other players without any difficulty. The unit works great and my only complaint would be that the manual is not very specific on many items. For example, if I just stop recording after an episode instead of just pausing it, it creates a chapter that can be selected from the main menu. If I just pause it and start a new episode, the entire disk is one big chapter. Overall this has been a great buy. |

One can hardly tell the difference between good source material and the recording even at LP - of course the difference is more apparent when recording material that is downcoverted from an 1080i HD station but flexible speed helps to tremendously reduce that gap as well.
Part of the reason is it's upconversion. My Sony KD34XBR960 is a CRT with an excellent built in line-doubler but with upconversion through HDMI the playback quality is fantastic.
One drawback compared to my former Panasonic DVD recorder is that multiple steps are often required to get to the set-up and other functions and the buttons are way too close together but will admit this is more an annoyance and doesn't affect performance.
So go for it. |

I purchased this product before, or at least thought I did. The first Recorder I purchased in 2006, with the same model number was a good unit, I recorded hundreds of DVD's on it. The DVD's I recorded didn't play back as well on other DVD players however, but played fine on that machine. I didn't purchase any extended warranties on that unit and it stopped working properly about three months ago, which prompted me to replace it. I wanted the same unit because of my familiarity with it. When I received the unit I noticed that it was slightly different from the first one and works much better, and my copied DVD's play good in all of my players. Needless to say I purchased an extended warranty this time. This is a great investment for any collector! |

This is my second Panasonic product and it performs well with an excellent picture and flexible recording. I use it to record dvd's from 3 cameras and the sound quality is excellent |

My only problem with this product is the terrible instruction manual and control system. Setting up for time recording is a challenge, as the manual leaves much to be discovered by trial and error.
For example, in order to set a single digit start or end time, one must enter 07 rather than just 7, and there is no instruction as to how to end the pre-set procedure, or how to then set a second recording without erasing the first. |
