Most PDAs now come equipped with an expansion slot. Each slot accommodates a different type of expansion card. The most common types are listed below.
Secure Digital (SD): SD cards include features that allow for the secure exchange of data. This is particularly important for users who rely on their PDAs for business or banking applications. SD cards are the preferred form of expandable storage for Palm products and many digital cameras. Sony's proprietary Memory Stick™ is also a form of SD media expansion.
Compact Flash (CF): Compact Flash memory was the first flash memory standard. Used in a variety of PDAs and digital cameras, Compact Flash also supports a number of popular handheld GPS applications.
MultiMediaCard (MMC): MMCs allow your PDA to accommodate a variety of programs. However, since they don't provide the security of an SD card, the applications are usually limited to games and utilities software such as maps and street finders.
Some PDAs offer dual expansion slots, meaning that they can accommodate more than one kind of memory card.
