Great & Easy Network Storage

I am a circuit city employee and I recently bought this device and all i can say is that it works great. It allows you to take 2 hard drives and use them as network storage that can be shared with all the computers in your network. It even features upgradeable firmware so if new features come out for it you can get them plus the drives are passwordable for protecting sensitive data. If you need a easy way to share data this is it.

The only downfall to this device is that it does not support SMB file sharing like some others do but for most people thats not a big deal and for others many won't even know what this is, but overall still worth the money.

I had read several reviews including some very negative ones but when the price dropped below $27 I bought two. I se them up as two pair of mirrored drives at 160 gb and 200gb. Before I started I had to download the latest firmware and software. once theywere installed the rest was abreeze. I am have no problems with them except to mention that they are slower to acces htan a regular network drive but if you are interested in a good volume backup they are great for the price.

Very good S.A.N. Unit.

Unit has 2 fans on it's underside. They are loud about the amount of sound a blow dryer put's out, but you do not have to worry about it being on all the time because after about 15 min of non-use it will spin down the hard disks to prevent premature failure, that will keep the unit and hardrives cool. Try to keep file transfers small as large file transfers (many Files) will take a while to transfer. As long as you follow the instruction the unit will work flawlessly, please download the software from the website as the cd (even though common sense might tell you it that it should work) sometimes might not work correctly the one one the Netgear website has certain things corrected such as bugs that the software on the cd will have. Also the unit will re-format you're harddrives using the data-plow filesystem, it will destroy any data on the harddrive , and the drive will only be able to be read using the S.A.N. unit Only. (S.A.N.=Storage Area Network)
