Solid Router - NOT WEP CAPABLE

I hardly ever will take the time to write a review, however I thought that I would this time. I bought this router yesterday, setting up the WAN was easy with the wired connections. The problem that I had was with my older wireless cards, that were usingWEP authentication, I could not connect to the router wirelessly.

I called dlink, who informed me that WEP is not enabled with this router and I would have to use WPA. After hours of dealing with the WEP, the solution was to find updated drivers to get myolder cards to use WPA.

My advice prior to purchasing this product is to make sure that the cards that you are using have an option for WPA. If not you will want to buy newer cards that offer the compatibility.

I upgraded my 802.11g Linksys Wireless Router with this D-link DIR-625. I also bought a Dlink DWA-642 PCMCIA notebook card that I can swap between my home and work notebooks (which have embedded g). First thing I did though was download the latest firmware and drivers for the PCMCIA card. Ran the Installation Wizard CD without unplugging the old 'g' router. It found and transfered all my settings and instead of using Port Forwarding for the survaillance cameras (required to view outside the firewall onthe Internet from work or while travelling) it virtual servered them. Twenty minutes later I was rocking and rolling at 300Mbps through my entire two story 2500 sq/ft home as well as my extra large backyard, patio and garage with WPA2 security. I also have 2 D-Link wireless survaillance cameras DSC-G900s, X-Box, Wireless Multimedia Server, VOIP phones and they continue to work well -no...Great!- after the upgrade. Truly eveything works like a charm. I specially like the aluminum case (as opposed to thecheap plastic cases used today) on this router and the fact it barelly feels warm on touch.

I use a cable modem and the install was very easy. Also this router works both with my XBOX 360 and PS3 with no bad side effects. All the setups were relativley easy. This is also a very good value. Great router!
