So many problems from design to product

I was really looking forward to getting this unit I ordered in advance. When I my 80gb unit arrived, it had a horrible problem with static during playback that their tech staff blamed on software, but couldn't figure out. I got a replacement same problem. Only by then they had updated the firmware I could download, which fixed the problem. The original firmware, apparently, was outdated before the first shipment went out, and none of the tech staff knew about it. Then the shortcomings started to appear. This isn't really designed to be an audio player-- it's too bulky, there's no way to attach it to you, and it seems a little fragile. So as a video player/recorder, you'd think it would play a multitude of files. It doesn't, not until you pay extrafor the plug in (honestly, it doesn't even play the two file types it advertises only certain versions/qualities of those file types). The wifi is a great idea. But you'll have to pay extra for it. As packaged, you can only re-charge the battery fromyour computer by USB, which is painfully slow (4-5 hours). So you've got to dish out more money for a charger. Want to record video (as advertised)? You have to buy the $100 adapter. When you buy, you think the case won't matter, but after you see thelarge screen with the controls around the edge, you realize you really want something that will actually protect the unit. More money. Expect to pay $80 to $300 more than the unit to get it to work the way you want. Reviews from the pros tend to be good because they get a pre-tested, tricked-out model from the company with all of the features working. In addition, I've found the volume output is low, and I've yet to get more than 9 hours of audio playback. The unit will lose battery power rather quickly while 'sleeping', and I suspect it loses some when 'Off' as well. Go figure.

To all: Don't pay extra for the 160GB upgrade. Use that money to buy a DVR station, 1TB External Hard-Drive and plug-ins.

I brought mine about a month ago really bee carefully with it. It has restarted a couple times but over all I am loving the battery life and took it on vacaution and downloaded all my pics off my camera start to it then to my computer when I got back. Also have the DVR bay. that is just plain cool I work 3rd shift and watching my favorite shows while on break is just plain cool.
