Replacement Parts Are Impossible to Get

I have the Philips HDD 1635/17 6 MB MP3 player. All-in-all, for the money it isn't a bad unit. However, I need to replace the rechargeable battery and Philips doesn't even sell a battery for its own equipment. Their own customer service directed me tothe Internet and instructed me to attempt to find a replacement battery on my own. After three days of searching and sending emails to almost every battery reseller online, no luck. So it looks like I'll have a decent MP3 player with almost 2,000 songson it with no power source. I also purchased a pair of Philips ear buds. The headphone was comfortable and reasonably priced, however in time the soft rubber tips that fit into your ear fall off. Because they are almost clear, unless you see where theyfall you'll lose them. Without these tips, the headset is useless. You guessed it, Philips doesn't sell the small rubber tips, again making another product useless.

Great for the price, but file organization is a little weird

Overall, I'm very happy with this device. If I needed to replace it I would likely buy another one.

DURABILITY: I haven't bashed it around enough to really know if it is durable, although I have dropped it a few times, with no problems.

COMPATIBILITY:I only deal with MP3s, so I've had no problems with format compatibility (BTW, it doesn't support any DRM-formats, such as iTunes). Loading music couldn't be easier, because there is a USB plug built right into the unit. You just rip the music to your computer (you can use Windows Media Player), plug the unit into your computer, and drag the files on using Windows Explorer. It treats the unit as another drive, so you can rename the songs and folders at any time.

EASE OF USE: I like that you can create folders and sub-folders to categorize the music, but it's a very poor file-management system. If you categorize your music beyond individual album titles (rock, pop, reggae, etc.) you will be disappointed, because it won't play the albums one at a time - will sequentially play the FIRST SONG from each album in each category. For example, you create a folder called 'rock.' In that folder you have a folder for Rush and a folder for Creed. Even if you go directly to the 'Rush' folder and hit play, it will only play the first song from Rush, then play the first song from Creed, then the 2nd song from Rush, then the 2nd from Creed, and so on. It will do this for as many albums as you have in that category. If you put more than one album in a band's folder it will behave the same way within within that folder too. The only solution is to put all albums in the root folder, and scroll through to the album you want. It lists them alphabetically, so you could rename each album with the genre in the beginning, but you'd still have to scroll through everything else to get to it.

Also, the readout only shows 18 characters at a time, but it scrolls left to right, and you probably know your own music well enough to read it anyway.

COST BENEFIT: As I implied, it's worththe money. I fit 50 full albums on mine, and at $50.00, it's worth buying another one to have another 50 albums ready to go.

Nice little MP3 and voice recorder

Good sound quality in both music and voice recording. The case is protective and yet allows full feature use. Upgraded ear buds that come in the 'kit' are a necessity the basis ones are very uncomfortable. The battery which came with it was dead, butCircuit City replaced it. The rechargeable batteries were fine. It fits in the bottom of my purse, so I have it with me all the time.
