Features

Enhance productivity: The Acer Aspire AM1640-U1401A includes essential features for helping you get the job done with less effort. With a powerful dual-core Intel processor and premium features including Windows Vista Home Premium and a DVD SuperMulti drive, this desktop will help you perform complex tasks quickly and easily.

Dual-core processing: The 1.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 processor has two processing engines that work in tandem, providing much more power than traditional 1.6GHz single-core models.

This desktop features 1GB of DDR2 system memory—enough to handle everyday computing needs. DDR2 is slightly faster than DDR, the previous standard in system memory.

Data travels to the processor along the frontside bus. The faster data travels, the faster everything works. This fast 800MHz frontside bus will enhance the speed of this desktop.

Processors search for the same data over and over. L2 caches keep this data neat, organized, and nearby so it can be retrieved more quickly. This 1MB L2 cache gives the processor a little boost.

Hard drive: This hard drive features a 250GB capacity—perfect for robust collections of music, movies and multimedia. This drive’s data disks spin at 7200rpm, providing faster-than-average access to your files.

DVD SuperMulti drive: Use this drive to burn DVDs and CDs to share your files, music mixes or home movies. You can even burn DVD-RAM discs—specially-formatted discs that let you drag and drop, or write and rewrite your files up to 100,000 times.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit): Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for homes with advanced computer needs. And Vista Premium features the elegant new Aero interface. You’ll be able to use your desktop more effectively and enjoy new entertainment experiences—all with the benefit of added security and reliability.

Audio/video: This desktop features the NVIDIA GeForce 7050 with 256MB of shared graphics memory, which is drawn from the main system memory. This video memory is perfect for everyday activities like casual movie watching or gaming. The high-definition audio speakers give your multimedia some extra kick.

Media card reader: Seamlessly transfer images from your digital camera or camcorder. This reader is compatible with Secure Digital, SmartMedia card, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and CompactFlash I/II card.

Great Machine for the Price.

This ones for Hammer from The State of Jefferson. I bought this computer a couple of days ago knowing that it was going to run good for basic computer needs. If you are using the computer to search the web and play online games then its perfect. If you plan on doing a lot of multitasking (having more than 2 windows open at one time) then this computer probably isn't the best for you, unless you add a 1 GB stick of ram to it (1 GB of DDR2 RAM is about 30 bucks). If you put 2GB of ram in this computer thenit will run perfect for most users. The RAM is a little out dated just like any other computer that is going for 369.99 but is still fast. This computer is cheap, but for the money its a great deal. Also there is no modem in this computer which costs about 20 bucks if you need one, keep in mind thats only for dial up users, most people today have high speed internet but as I said before if you need one its about 20 bucks. For the most part Vista is pretty similar to XP and yes vista takes a lot of memoryto run but what do you expect with all the extra gadgets and enhancements (its a much fancier looking Operating System compared to XP). I would highly NOT recommend trying to put XP on this machine because it will be much more of a hassle to do because ofall the drivers you need. There are very few programs out now that don't work with Vista, the only ones that don't work with Vista are usually free programs. Overall, this computer is great for the price, Vista is becoming more and more compatibly as time goes on. If you need a cheap computer that will let you go online and do minimal tasks this is the computer for you! I gave this computer to my parents and they love it.

I wasn't able to copy/burn DVDs, and I was not happy. Called company (ACER) and was told that I should use the NIT DVD maker program, not the MS Media. I am now able to copy/burn DVDs and happy with the computer.

Great machine for the money

I've owned thas machine for a day and so far, so good. It's been responsive with only one exception- opening a 2500+page XML document in Word. Once I chose an XML editor over Word, it handled the file with ease. There isn't too much bloatware and the built in card reader is a nice feature. I did have to buy a new wireless adaptor because my old one wouldn't work. Netgear said there were Vista drivers, but they wouldn't work for me. I'd place the blame on Netgear and not Vista. There 'program' to manage wireless didn't work well on XP, so I'm not suprised that the Vista version are buggy.
