Attractive looking, massive storage capacity for a portable drive of this size. Great deal, less than 38 cents per gigabyte! As for the short USB cable.... it's about 11 inches long, which is adequate for laying the unit flat on the desk beside your computer, for most home PC's. However, it looks like it was optimized for the laptop user, can be tucked in a jacket pocket or laptop case. Easily designed for use on the go..who wants to tote around a cord that's 5 ft. longer than it needs to be? I seethat as a plus...but if you prefer a longer cable, it is a standard size plug so it can work with the USB cable from most other devices.
As for the included backup software, so far it seems easy to use, You can select your entire internal drive to back up, or just specific files and folders, or specific types of files, and select how often you want to back up your data, from once every minute (will auto save documents as you are using them) to once daily or weekly.

I purchased this external hard drive to back up my computer and my wifes. It was sooo simple to hook up, set up and use! It has the feel and looks of quality and it should..... it's a Toshiba!
I looked arouund and found other external hard drives, but chose this hard drive because of its size, cost and manufactures reputation. Circuit City had a very competitive price and no I didn't stay up all night to search every store that sold this item !!!!!!

On sale for $129, smallest drive i've seen in awhile, and a lot of space. Transered 15 GB in bout 2 hours. No issues so far. Works right out of the box. Small USB cable though, only like 4 inches. I don't know how other reviewer got 11 inches.
