Linksys 802.11g Wireless Router

Features

Multipurpose router: This compact router is really three devices in one: an access point, a 4-port switch and a high-speed router. The access point function lets you connect 802.11g devices to your network at blazing speeds of up to 54Mbps. The built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 switch connects your wired-Ethernet devices. And the router function ties it all together, letting your whole network share a high-speed Internet connection.

Push button security: Just push the button on the router and on your other SecureEasySetup-enabled wireless device to create a secure wireless connection. WPA technology protects your data and privacy with up to 128-bit industrial-strength encryption. The router features a powerful SPI firewall, supports VPN pass-through and can serve as a DHCP server.

Easy setup: Configure your network using the simple web-based interface to get up and running fast.

Note: You will also need a wired Ethernet adapter or wireless card for each PC on your network, a modem and Internet connection.

I purchased this to replace my Siemens SS2624 along with the PCMCI card WPC54G. Had a difficult time setting it up with my desktop and laptop for unknown reasons. The setup never gave the option to clone the adaptor MAC address so I had to enable that option using the web interface option prior to finishing up the setup CD.

After several hours I was finally able to connect the laptop to it. The speed increase is very noticeable and the range is MUCH better than the Siemens SS2624 (I even had the Siemenssignal booster). I was able to walk around all 3 levels and just outside of my apartment.

A neat feature I noticed with the Site Survey option in the software, scans for all wireless broadcasting in the area. This gives details such as what channel theperson(if there are other people using a wireless connection within range) is operating on, WEP and MAC address. You can then make sure you block the MAC addresses to your connection and only allow your wireless computers.

I updated the firmware as suggested by many others (www.xxxx.com reviews) and so far have had great success! The only issues I've had were the setup but have only had this for a few days.

I recently purchased a laptop and needed a way to add it to my home network and be able to access the internet. Someone in my office, who loves gadgets and electronics, recommended this particular router. I bought it online and picked up at the local store. This was the easiest installation I have ever made. Once you put the CD in, it will guide you (step by step) through the entire process and will let you know if you missed a step or something is not correct.
I would not only buy it again, I am recommending it to everyone who asks me about a wireless router. With this unit, I am able to utilize both computers, desktop and laptop, at the same time with no loss of speed. As a matter of fact, they can play games on one and surf on the other, with no noticeable difference. It also has a great range, which is just an added bonus, as far as I am concerned.
Definitely worth every dollar that I paid for it.
