Netgear WG511 Loses Connection Periodically

I purchased the Netgear WG511 yesterday. Installation and configuration of the card are fairly straightforward. The problem I've been having with the card is that it has been losing its connection to my access point about every three to five minutes, likeclockwork, regardless of how close I am to the access point. I downloaded the latest driver(s) for the card from the Netgear website hoping that that would correct the problem, but no such luck. I did a bit of research on the Internet and found a coupleof other people that have had similar problems, but with different Netgear models. They said that a nearby 2.4 GHz telephone might be interfering with the WG511's operation, but I don't believe that to be true because I have another laptop with a wirelesscard of its own, and its been working flawlessly, despite the telephone. When the card IS communicating with the access point, its performance is average to above average. From time to time, the bandwidth fluctuates drastically, but never to the point where it impedes day-to-day Internet browsing. If I continue to have problems with this card, I may return it and get the similarly-priced Belkin instead. However, given Circuit City's current rebate(s) on this product, it's difficult to pass up. Perhaps Iwas just unlucky and purchased a faulty product. Either way, make sure you purchase this product from a store that has a good return policy, just in case.

not WPA or WPA-2 encryption compatible

If you have WPA or WPA-2 encryption on your router. This card will not work. Basically, disappointing for a wireless G card to not have a WPA and/or WPA-2 encryption. Most routers now with wireless G has this feature, which is the highest level of protection for your wireless rather than the WEP which is the lowest protection.

Installation of this card was super easy, fast and convienant. I thought it was going to be much harder. Card caught on wirless router and does not drop at all.

Recommend this product.
