I thought APC would have a good product. I've been using their UPS system for many years without a problem.
I just purchased a notebook and I wanted additional battery time.
This unit managed to shorten the life of the notebook battery instead of increasing it.
After four recharges it fared no better, so I returned it or a refund.

I have 2 different Tosiba Satellite model laptops. The recommended tips for each are copatible but one is a tight fit. I get approx. 2.5 hours (running Windows Vista) to 3.5 hours (running Windows XP) of additional use from the APC battery. Depending onwhat I'm doing (multi-tasking and accessing the net as oppose to just watching movies) while i'm traveling the battery time could be approx. 30 mins. less. Since the APC is plugged in to the AC power connection your laptop will think it is plugged in to ac AC outlet and will draw power accordingly. If you don't change the laptop power management settings to run at a minimum the APC will last 1 to 1.5 hours. Having to press the reset button every time I switch laptops (due to different power outputs for both models) and every time I use the battery is annoying but not a big issue. The size/weight could be smaller/less but we always want better tech than what we have. Hopefully APC or some other company(s) is working on it. I get an 4 to 6 hours (two APC batteries) additional computing time making long flights and travel a lot more bearable.

Despite my laptop being on the list of compatible notebooks, this product did not fit my Toshiba. When I called tech support they told me that Toshiba changed their plug and that APC was waiting for a new tip. I called for three months straight waitingto find out if they ever got the new tip and eventually I just gave up.
