Great supplemental unit

I live in a 500-sq-ft. studio apartment in a high-rise building with central air, a system that is old and inefficient. On hot days, with the air full blast, it will be 75 and humid in my room. I bought this small Amcor in the hopes that 8,000 BTUs would be enough to make the place more comfortable. It is. It lowered the the temp to 67 and extracted all the moisture. It is also very quiet. Plus, its new Nanomist evaporation system works so well that there is no dripping on my neighbors in the floors below me. I don't know how well it would work on its own, but as a supplemental unit it is nearly perfect.

We bought it on the spur of the moment to cool the bedroom of an apartment. Ever since we have had the Goleta fires to contend with and it has run almost continuously. It keeps the bedroom cool, filters out the smoke and runs relatively quiet. I wish Ihad bought a little bigger one, but we are pleased. By the way, the method of misting the condensate into the exhaust really works. We have never seen a drip from the window and I have checked twice in two weeks and found no water. Might be different in Florida, but it works great here.

I purchased my unit at Circuit City on SALE for $279.99... (out the door for $300 and change) Unit is compact but heavy, standing approx 30 inches high 12' deep and 12' wide and weighing in at about 50lbs. The exhaust hose is made of sturdy plastic collapsible flex tube (think dryer vent hose) and comes with a reducer that fits into the window slider that's about 3'-3.5' wide. The exhaust slider is adjustable and will fit tall windows if mounting vertically, as was our case. Installation took all of fiveminutes. Unit blows cold air pretty quickly and although it's not terribly loud, it's noticeable. Not as loud as one of those big window box fans, but it is considerably louder than a tower fan set on high. If you've ever stayed in a hotel room with the AC running, it puts out about the same level of noise as a hotel AC unit. You can still hear the TV and hold a conversation, so it's not a deal breaker.
