Simply the best detector for the money...PERIOD!

I have owned radar detectors in the past by Whistler, Cobra, and Sensoro and I can honestly say that the Beltronics Vector 940 easily beats them all. The detector is very heavy (usually indicates good quality) and the windshield mount is superb. I roadtested the unit by traveling throughout my region for job interviews and this detector saved me on approximately 15 occasions! The warning/detection range is unmatched by any detector I've previously owned. The unit generally gives from 1/3 to nearly 2miles of advanced warning to check speed. Most cheapo detectors (under $100 Whistler and Cobra units) top out at 1/4 mile! Most police radar in my area is 'K' band and is easily detected by the Vector 940 even around curves and up hills. In short, I didmy homework before purchasing the Beltronics Vector 940. It has the same 'guts' as more expensive Beltronics detectors (such as the 965 and 995) with only the essential settings and options.

Voice alerts, Automute, and LED Display

CONS: Sometimes produces false alerts in commercial areas which is an easy tradeoff for theamazing advancedwarning of actual police radar. Once you use the device for a week, you'll get to know where false alerts occur on your daily commute. Also, City Mode helps!
LED is a little difficult to see when it's bright outside

Bottom Line: This unit is worthy of 4.5/5 total for the range/detection alone! Once you get used to the falses in high commercial zones, you'll wonder how you ever drove without it! Highly Recommended!

Really Worth It

My husband and I bought the 940 for a trip to New Mexico. We were miles away from cops and it picked up the signal. Kept us from getting many tickets on our trip. It is also great when you are traveling in the city. It has never failed us!!

I have owned Uniden, Cobra and Whistler radar detectors. By comparison, the BEL V940 is the best. The body has a very heavy weight, secure feeling. The detector quickly releases from the windshield mount- a feature I like because since I spent a littlemore on the detector this time, I want to easily remove so no one will steal it!

This unit's accuracy is astounding. It picks up the cops using the new POP radar. I didn't even know this radar gun was used around here. The unit is easily muted if needed in parking lots. Mute and dim buttons are within reach and easy to push. The LED readout is very bright and can be seen very easily.

Excellent price for the benefit and accuracy of this model. I'm thinking about buying one for my wife since we will both be doing a lot of highway traveling with our jobs in the future.
