Not as good as B&D's first model!

I really like the under counter design I had one of B&D's first models and it was great! Lasted many years. I finally gave up the ghost so I bought this new model. It is not built like the old one. Still works OK but the old design was much better.They're trying to make this model look a little snazzier but quality has really slipped in the process. One major drawback is trying to find a replacement carafe. Not to be had except from B&D parts....for around $30 w/shipping. The old model had justya plain straight side carafe but this new on has a curving profile to fit in the new frame. So no generic pot will work. If this one fails I'll go back to a sit on the counter coffee maker.

I decided to try out a Spacemaker after moving to a tiny apartment about a year ago. My parents had a Spacemaker that they used for close to 15 years--so I thought it would be a good $50 purchase. This thing really helps save space I love the way it looks in my close-sized kitchen, and I love using it.

However, the first one I bought just stopped working one day--the clock wasn't on, it wouldn't respond to any buttons being pushed I unplugged it and plugged it back in. That happened after about onemonth of use, so I returned it and exchanged it for a new one. Surely it must have been a defective one.

The second one lasted much longer, but not long enough. The exact same thing happened--it just stopped working. I shouldn't have to go through twocoffee makers in a year, especially when I've had much more reliable and durable models in the past!

Sorry Black & Decker, but I don't think I'll be buying any new coffee makers from you.
