The worst ever. period

We use this as a network back-up drive for my family. We bought it with the idea that we would be able to automatically back up files from all the computers in the house whenever anything changed. Considering the thing is made to do that, we didn't thinkit would be so hard. Instead, everytime it goes to automatically back up, it re-coppies every file on the computer and puts it on the drive. So you could imagine how fast it filled up.
On top of that, the software that comes in the package seems ancient,and it is.
The bottom line is that it makes it impossible to actually manage all the files.

I use this for a whole house backup and data sharing on a gigabit home network so the gigabit port alone is worth the money. I have no need for the backup software so can't judge that. I just copy the files I want to the drive when I want a backup copy (even huge video files - 4GB and up - copy without a hiccup). The whole family accesses it with no problems (even steaming video) and 500GB is significant capacity for the price. I've had this drive for about a year without a single failure or lockup. It'sjust there whenever I need it. You can also hang a USB drive off of it as yet another storage location. And the Buffalo will back itself up to the USB drive for redundancy. I would definitely buy another one. Buffalo did a great job with this one.

Great drive, horrible backup software

I purchased this drive to use at my house for backup and also at a small business for backup. The memeo software that is bundled with the drive is horrible but the performance of the drive itself is great. I would recommend this drive if you plan to delete the bundled backup software. Once I quit using the memeo software, the Buffalo software built into the drive works great. It can be setup locally or on a network and shared with multiple users to backup their drives.. I have been using this drive now for more than 6 months with no problems...after deleting the memeo software and using another backup program. This is a lot of drive for the buck.
