Rugged phone. Sound quality is not as good as I expected. Plenty loud enough but a tinny tone to it.

I have moderate to severe hearing loss. But my hearing doesn't fluctuate in and out every second or so - this telephone's amplification does. On top of that the actual sound quality is pretty poor to boot. It has 3 tone settings but they might as welljust be labeled '-eal-y ba-, no- -o goo-, and fr-stra-ing' because none of them is worth listening to.

And the boost could just about blow out your eardrum - and yet you'd still have difficulty understanding what was being said by the caller.

I've tried this telephone with no amplification (way too quiet), decent amplification, my-needs-met amplification, and way too much amplification. NONE of the volumes stayed steady or provided something like good tonal quality, IMO. In fact, I have heard bettersound quality (both tone and steadiness of signal/volume) from my cell phone, ancient $15 trimlines from Bell, and my current run-of-the-mill 10-year-old cordless (with factory standard volume control) from AT&T.

If the allure of possibly being able tohear on the telephone without ever having to ask the caller to repeat herself is too much to resist (and I won't blame you - that's what pulled me in, too) just remember to read the 30-page manual that comes with the telephone because NOTHING is intuitive with this phone's operation either.



OK, I feel impelled to explain the ratings I gave above:

You know why the sound quality got 1 star (can I give a zero?).

Range is at 3 because honestly I never moved outside the room in which the base was located for fear of making the signal/volume/quality/tone even worse.

Durability is at 3 because for as much pressure as I had to exert on the telephone to click the battery pack back onto the base the thing SHOULD have been in about 11 pieces! I mean I haveNEVER had to put ANYTHING together that required THAT MUCH force to do it. Heck, I rarely have to use that much force on tools! I actually had to call Clarity's tech line to make sure I wasn't going to break it as I did what the manual instructed me todo. [and, yes, the tech did have a prepared statement of instruction for getting the back on the base. Makes me wonder how many old folks with hearing loss simply COULDN'T get the thing together at all...).

Lastly, Cost/Benefit: again if zero were anoption... Just look at it like this: I'm giving this telephone to Goodwill... sheepishly, under cover of darkness.
