Get this before getting new router !

I went through three routers before i tried this.This antenna made the biggest differance. Went from just seeing my network to seeing five of the neighbors around me (they were weak signals but they were there). My signal strength went from 50 (before antenna) to between 80 and 90. I wish I would have tried this first it would have saved me some money.

Works Great If Used Correctly

This is a very good product and does what it should do, works great. The magnetic base that is also wall mountable is perfect for almost any situation. The cable length is descent I could have used 1 more meter in length but moving the WiFi router slightly worked. You can buy extension cables but the problem with doing that is for every 5 feet you loose 1db in signal strength approximately so if your cable is 20†you would lose all of the gain that youâ€re trying to accomplish, the original antenna isa 2db gain in most cases.

With home WiFi you need point-to-point connections, straight line with no metal in-between your connection. This is difficult to do with ducting in the floors and ceiling besides appliances or mirrors that can interfere. I find it best to put my WiFi router in the ceiling on the lower level but away from the furnace if possible. Placement of your router is key and sometimes if you need whole house coverage you may need to bridge your WiFi with another unit. Also channel interference can be a problem if someone close to you has a WiFi system you want to be 4 channels from them or at least 2 so that you donâ€t interfere.

I have my Linksys WRT54GS wireless router upstairs and a desktop pc downstairs in the den. I have a NETGEAR RangeMax PCI Adapter in the desktop. When I set the pc up, I was getting a weak signal at best. So I went to Circuit City and picked up this antenna on sale for $30.00, and said what the heck, I'll give it a try. I plugged the antenna wire into the antenna jack on my PCI card I set the antenna up on the desk and now I have a very strong signal. I'm even picking up a few signals from the neighborhood that I could only find with my laptop if I took it outside. $43.00 seems a little pricey for a simple antenna but if you can catch it on sale like I did, I say go for it if you need a 'lil boost.
