Disney Princess: Worlds of Enchantment reinforces fundamental literacy and math skills such as letter and number recognition, letter-sound relationships, simple spelling patterns, number sequence and simple number operations.

All Leapster games work with all Leapster Learning Game Systems (Leapster, Leapster L-Max and Leapster TV).

Learning skills:

• Numbers

To begin their study of math, children must distinguish numerals from letters and shapes and to understand that numbers are symbols for amounts.

• Counting to 100

The ability to count to 100 shows that a child can use repeating patterns of 10 to count.

• Skip counting

Skip counting helps children recognize number patterns, a prerequisite to future work in math.

• Counting backwards

Counting backwards requires children to grasp number sequence and helps later when they learn subtraction.

• Addition

Once children know that numbers are symbols for objects (2 stands for two cars) they learn to count sets, or groups of objects, to find sums. Finally, sets of objects can be replaced by numerals and added together in equations.

• Subtraction

The inverse of addition is subtraction - to take away objects and tell how many are left. Once children grasp subtraction, sets of objects can be replaced by numerals in equations.

• Shapes

Identifying and manipulating shapes lays the groundwork for geometry by giving children concrete experience with angles, symmetry and relative sizes.

• Letter names

Young children typically recite or sing the alphabet before they recognize individual letters. By preschool they begin to identify letters by name and shape.

• Letter sounds

Before they can learn to read, children must learn letters and their sounds. Once children associate printed letters to sounds, they can begin to sound out words for reading and spelling.

• Spelling

Children first learn to spell by breaking down words into sounds. But many sounds in our language have irregular spellings. Children must learn the fundamental spelling rules and recognize commonly misspelled words.

• Word recognition

As children learn to read, they must be able to "decode" the words they don't know - to translate strings of letters into words. Eventually they can recognize common words that can't be sounded out (the, said, of).
