Eclipse wiring harness: Make your radio installation quick and easy. Just connect your Eclipse in-dash player to the Metra radio wiring harness. A universal plug connects to the vehicle's wiring harness plug. There are no bare wires to join and solder--just plug it in.

Easy to install, but poorly designed connector comes loose

The universal harness concept is a great idea - it makes installation almost plug and play. Metra's design, however, suffers from a fatal flaw. Metra's universal plug is not an automotive-grade connector and thus does not survive well in the car's high-vibration environment.
After I installed this harness in my car, only two days passed before I started experiencing loose-wire symptoms such as intermittent sound and power loss. I reseated and retaped the universal plug for now, but I fully expect that the trouble will reappear in time. Eventually I will need to get rid of this harness in favor of a soldered or crimped installation.
