Zune: slightly superior to iPod Nano...slightly

Great product, really. Ipod's Itunes is better, no lies there, but the Zune MP3 Device is better. The Wireless PC Sync is almost worth choosing this player over the iPod alone. The touch controls are clean and responsive and the screen is crisp.

The software...eh. Could be better as far as being streamlined for use, but it's not confusing to use, as everything is categorized fairly well. Itunes wins here though. Itunes is much more powerful, more useful, and has a ton more features than Zune's software.if you use itunes now, you'll still be using it as a media player i'm sure

As far as 3rd party accessories, this is a no contest. Nothing exists for Zune yet, i still can't find a workout case for it in stores (plenty on Ebay). iPod has more accessoriesthan God himself, so for sheer support, Ipod wins that battle hands down. I am sure Zune support will grow, as the 4GB and 8GB Zune's are relatively new (released November 07 I believe).

The Zune device is superior to iPod nano as far as interface. It has Wireless syncing, wireless music share between Zunes and a FM radio. Neither have a microphone though. The Zune is the only apt player able to even compete with the iPod Nano, Zune doesn't have EQ settings yet though, which is kind of a bummer.

Perhaps one of the cooler features is sheer social ability of the Zune. When you make Zune Social Name (required for Marketplace and PodCast subscriptions), it goes to Zune's website. Any song you play either in Zune's software or on the Zune device updates the website, so people can see what you are listening to. People can recommend new artists or just chat it up with you based on this functionality. Very cool.

I can't recommend to many other players in this price category, except maybe the Samsung T10 (decent player, good name) and the Creative Zen (better display than both the Zune and ipod, expandable memory)

Overall, if you want to go against the mainstream iPod Squad, Zune is the perfect player. the Zune software is REQUIRED to use Zune, so get usedto using it. Also, I'll tell you now, it took 3 hours for me to install software because I didn't know you have to have Windows Firewall running. You can turn it off after you install software. Hope this helps.

I love my Zune to death! I've owned iPods, Zen, Nomad and now Zune. Zune takes the cake! At first I thought that the small screen would make my eyes strain, but the screen is so sharp that it's just like looking at my 30' HDTV from my couch. 4GB isn't much for someone like me who loves watching podcasts and owns a large library of mp3's, but the good part is that it it's so sleek and slim that I can't even tell I have it on me. Flash memory means that if I drop this sucker, it will be way more lesslikely to get messed up and continue to work like nothing happened...which is a big plus. All in all this little thing packs a whallop and it's cheaper than an iPod and has way more functionality. No EQ settings is something I have a minor issue with, but that's not something a firmware update couldn't fix so I rate the sound quality less than excellent for that reason alone.
