Normally you can find 1 low-level audiophile speaker for the price of this pair. You cannot beat them in this price range.

My only complaint their lack of ability to handle the lower frequencies(<57Hhz). What you have are 2 midrange's and a tweater. Ifouwant bass these are not for you, unless you pair them with a good subwoofer.
The lack of a built in woofer is really only noticeable when watching tv in Dolby Prologic, I canot tweak the bass settings on my receiver in Pro Login mode
so they sound kid of 'tinny'. Maybe this is the result of my receiver, I am upgrading to an HK 630 which is considered 'warm' so maybe this will alleviate the perceived tinniness I experience with my current Kenwood AVR-209.

Also consider that these speakers are essentallythe M40 bookshelves in a tower so you may consider going that route to save a little $$$ for the same performance. But when you count in the extra $$$ you may need for stands you may chose to go this route like I did.

Fantastic speaker for those with good sound ears, but short on dough. The POLK Monitor 50 floorstanding speaker by far exceeds its competition within this price point. Of course I would prefer a set of high end Paradigm's surprisingly this affordable speaker truly shines. While I enjoy the pleasing LFE output of my Boston Acoustic 12' SUB, I must say that comparison with more expensive floor standing BA, JBL, and the likes was non-existent the Polk's win handily.
Really sweet speaker.
