A Solid Improvement Over The Original Sony Micro Vault

Having used a vast array of usb drives, I would have to say that while the Sony Micro Vault may not have the best build quality, speed, or software, it was by far the most cost-effective. Priced in at $39.99, the 8GB Micro Vault Click was tough to refuse.

The product was very compact, and the retractable usb was a fine addition. Installation was just plug and play, and it worked perfectly on both my XP and Vista systems. There are small aspects of the drive, which make it particularly appealing. Forexample, after ejecting the Micro Vault, when you pull out the USB drive by its base, it automatically retracts the USB. It's a little hard to explain, but the feeling is actually satisfying.

On the negative side, the drive suffers from poor build quality. Just as with the original Micro Vault, looks better than it feels. The main body of the drive is made of cheap, but still solid plastic, giving no flex. The worst aspect of the drive is that the spring that acts to retract the USB feels really cheap. Every time you click the USB port out of the base, you can feel the scraping of plastic That aspect is particularly bad. Because there was no rating for build quality, and just factored it into the 'Performance' category.

The transfer rates are nothing to brag about, but nothing to complain about either. The led light is a neat addition as well.

The software on the unit is pretty cool. The decompression software works just as it should, with some minor hiccups now and then.

If you can get it forthe right price, you should definitely pick up one of these if you need a USB Just be sure to be disappointed by the build quality. If build quality worries you, you should go and pick up a Lexar Lightning or Sandisk Titanium Cruzer.

Overpriced, underperforming

I got this flash drive thining that the name sony would mean something. Unfortunately when I went to use it I found that the write speed was slow(seeing between 3 and 5mb per second at the fastest, my 64mb flash drive writes faster than that). I found youcould get flash drives averaging about 2.50 a gb online, with this almost double the price. And to top it off I just had it break after only 1 month of use, so I just had to pay an extra $7 just to ship it to the service center. Do NOT buy. Much better units out there for cheaper.

Lost after one week

If you are a student, like me, then look for another usb drive to buy. I lost this one after one week after buying it. I forgot it at the computer, yea its my fault I know. However, if it had a little hook for the keys, making it a key chain, then I would have never lost it. Now I have to buy a new one, and I'm going to buy one that definetely has a hook for the key chain on it.
