Perfect Except Map Detail in TomTom is sub-par

This is my first GPS unit. It is very functional and simple to use. There is one deficiency with all TomTom's that is causing me to return it and that has to do with Map detail. TomTom units do not display rivers and lakes like you'd see in a mapquestprintout. My purpose for a GPS was to help explore unfamilar areas and when I find a river I want to be able to see which roads cross it to find other fishing holes, etc. Same with lakes that would normally appear on a Mapquest or Yahoo maps search. Idon't think the problem is with TeleAtlas although you hear this a lot VS. Navetq. I believe it's because TomTom doesn't have the processing power in their low prices units to display the data or their software just eliminates this. For me it's not thewayto go because I want to see the map as it appears on mapquest but if you want to get from place to place accurately this is definitely worth a look. I think most other brands display all of this data.

Actually, this is my second GPS. My first one was a Garmin. I like this one better because I can update my map and software and even correct POIs. It's a great product and great deal for the price. I like it.

I just got my tomtom a few weeks ago, but have used it several times traveling to all sorts of different places. It is so much easier than printing off driving directions and trying to follow them. If I turn too soon, miss a turn, or have to take a detour (gotta love Chicago in the summer!), it automatically reconfigures the directions. I'm not afraid of getting lost when I go places. The only thing that is consistently off is time of arrival... but it almost always takes time away so you get there earlier than it originally said! The only time it kept adding time was when I went through a TON of construction and even then I only got there ten minutes later than it originally told me I would when I turned it on. I love this GPS and would not trade itfor anything in the world! It is a great deal! My parents are getting a new car and considered getting GPS in it, but when they found out how much it cost versus how much my tomtom cost, they decided they save the thousand bucks and get one like mine.
