5.8GHz: 5.8GHz digital spread spectrum technology offers excellent clarity, range, and security. It also won't interfere with your wireless network.

Expandable: This expandable system allows you to add seven additional handsets, with no additional phone jack required. You can transfer calls and use the intercom function to talk with others in your home.

Color display: The large, backlit color handset display with graphics allows for easy navigation of features using the icon driven menu. You can also personalize your phone's display using preset wallpaper images, or by downloading images via the USB port.

Digital answering system: This digital answering system records up to 15 minutes of messages. Check your messages from anywhere in the house using either the base unit or handset.

Dual caller ID/call waiting: The handset and base display the name and number of incoming callers. Requires phone company service.

Call conferencing capability: This phone allows you to easily conference calls between the base, cordless handsets and outside callers.

Vibrating handset ringer: Turn your handset to vibrate and a gentle vibration alerts you when your phone rings.

Speakerphones: The handset and base both include built-in speakerphones, so you can enjoy hands-free access anywhere in your house.

I must admit for some reason...I'm a bit of a phone freak.
Meaning..it seems each time a new 5.8 phone comes out I just have to get it. I had a perfectly good working Panasonic 5.8 but it was boring, and the sound quality was just average at best. I already own the latest Undien flip cell phone as well which I rate a close second to this VTech. Luckily my house is large so I try to convince myself, AND my wife we need more phones. Ok, so this VTech i5871 is VERY good. It has excellent sound quality on both listening and talking. The speaker on the back of the phone sounds GREAT and is quite hi fi. I downloaded some ringtones and it simply sounds great! Even when you open the box..you will see this phone is something special. It's packaged as if it werejewelry or something. I only mention the packaging because from the minute you open the box to the minute you use this phone it shines of quality. The display is quite nice and even has some animations like fish swimming. At the end of the day, it's aboutsound quality...and range on a cordless. This VTech is about THE best sounding cordless I've ever heard and I've heard TOO many. My only gripe is I feel even with it's superor sound and build quality it's priced a bit too high. The volume in the earpiececould stand to be just a wee bit louder...but actually it's fine unless you will be in a VERY nopisy environment!. To my ears and eyes this is THE best cordless phone you can buy.

Loved the design and length of the phone, so i spent the extra dollars. I was pleased for just about six months. The phone will not hold a charge, drops calls frequently and 'searches for base' even more frequently. I have had the exact same problemswith two different handsets. I would not recommend this phone.
Vtech support is less than helpful.

I bought this phone along with another Handset because my family were impressed with the cool features. From here my review echos many others...the handset became unable to find the base. We contacted Vtech and they sent us a new handset, but after a while both phones had the same problem again. I agree with the person that said: What good are all those cool features if you cant make and receive calls?
