Be prepared to have a 9 gig transfer take 30+ minutes, also be prepared to have the drive randomly disconnect and appear offline. Don't waste your time.

Pretty on the outside but...

Just bought this drive.
Very pretty drive, I could just look at those blue leds twirl all day.
That said, I am very disappointed with this drive. First because it can only be connected by ethernet, but ok it is a network drive. Secondly because dispite that this is a network drive and one is to expect it to be a little sluggish, I've never seen anything as slow as this in my life.
Using this for streaming video or music is hopeless, just browsing the folders takes a while (a few sec for opening each folder). And when you find what you want to play, you gotta wait another 5 sec until it starts.
Seriously, this can not be just network lag as when I stream through other computers on the network it is so much faster.

No ftp, downloadmanager, web, unless you tweak it.
I can only figure one use for this, and that is backup.

Bought at Circuit City to replace another Network Storage Device - which failed. This unit is terrific.

Yep - I see that others think it is SLOW - BUT it's not. The copy/backup speed depends on your LAN/WiFi connection. It really is that simple. It'srunning just fine in a rather complex network (Fiber/T1/SDSL/100MB/ADSL) along with 12 servers, 15 workstations, etc.

Network discovery works great (in XP/Vista) as does attaching USB devices to increase attached storage.

Beats hands down the 'Netgear'products with their silly drivers/mapping.

Great product.
