Zenith Digital to Analog Pass-thru TV Tuner/Converter Box

Features

The Zenith DTT901 is Zenith’s newest model of digital converter boxes. This model replaces the Zenith DTT900. The new Zenith DTT901 now offers the ability to have analog pass-thru capabilities while still providing outstanding digital signal access.

Government coupon information: Congress created the TV Converter Box Coupon Program for households wishing to keep using their analog TV sets after February 17, 2009. The Program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40, that can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes.

Information about Low power television stations and analog pass-thru capabilities

While federal law mandates that all full-power television stations must cease to broadcast in analog after 11:59 p.m. on February 17, 2009, low power television stations (LPTV), including Class A television stations and television translator and booster stations are not covered by the law. While some of these low power stations may transition to digital, many will continue to broadcast in analog after the February 17, 2009 digital conversion deadline for full-power stations.

Low power LPTV and Class A television stations are usually smaller stations. Some are community-owned and operated stations or stations broadcasting in international languages. Other low power stations can also be affiliates of smaller national TV networks like Univision, Telemundo, CW or other smaller national or religious broadcasting networks.

Many converter boxes do not allow analog signals to pass through their components. Therefore, if you attempt to watch both analog and digital programming on your TV set, you would have to unplug the converter box to receive the analog signals.

An "analog pass-through" converter box allows analog signals to pass through your box and into your television set. All you have to do is turn the box off and use your TV remote, and you can continue to watch analog programming on your TV set.

Without an "analog pass-through" converter box, viewers will need to purchase a "splitter" and a cable to continue watching analog.

The Zenith DTT901 has great featuresand delivers a great picture.It's easy to set up and the analog pass through is a nice option that wasn't available on the DTT900.The remote is programable, even worked for my tv/vcr set.

This thing is great. It took me about five minutes to set up.

Things to love about it:

It has a volume control built right in no matter how old the TV ( I'm definitely gonna be keeping my eyes open at yard sales and stuff from now on ) is you have fullchannel and volume remote function.

The zoom feature for the HI Def stations is very simple and intuitive

The signal meter is great I just pulled it up and turned my rabbit ears until I hit peak strength and the picture stays perfect. It's that easy.

It has a great setup program all you do is say yes about four times and you are in business.

The picture is crystal clear, the sound is too.

Things I wish would be better:

The guide it pulls up for upcoming shows only shows the present show and the next one for any given station. I have mine run through a DVD recorder so I can record long periods of any given station and not have to watch commercials. Plus the stuff thats on late night is usually more to my tastes than the current prime time shows. But I can find out program lineups through other means, so oh well. I'm not sure if any of the other converter boxes can do longer guides I know my nephew's HDTV can.

After trying several brands, including GE, APEX, Insignia and the Zenith converter box, the Zenith converter turned out to be the best unit. Many of the converters on the market appear to be junk. The Apex unit's remote malfunctioned, the APEX unit also runs very hot and overheats. and locks up. The GE and the APEX unit both have a hard time pulling in a good signal and many channels freeze because of poor reception. The Zenith Converter can pull in the signals a lot better using standard rabbit ear antennas amplified or not. The Zenith has the best menus for setup and the best looking remote control. The Zenith and Insignia brand are both the same units. Both the Zenith and the Insignia are made by LG Electronics. One marketed under Zenith and the otherby Insignia (Best Buy Brand).
